Term 4 2025 Competition Brief

Overall Challenge:
To create a game or a simulation
that relates to Magnetism!

Any student of any skill level can join in the competition and has a chance to win prizes for coming 1st in their skill level.
To create a game that uses the theme “Magnetism”. This means that your game or simulation must include, in some way, magnetism (attracting or repelling one object to/against another). This could be making a sprite “stick” to another when a button is pushed, having a magnet pull another sprite along or something completely different! It’s up to you to create something that fits the theme, so get creative!
Once the project is completed, students should send their scratch project to https://forms.office.com/r/r5iZVMGzh6.

Where they will be judged on:

  • Originality (How original the game/simulation is; if lots of other students use the same exact idea, then it will be less original).
  • How effective/efficient the code blocks are (if 50 blocks of code can do the same thing as 100 blocks, the 50 blocks of code would win. The game/simulation should also work as intended).
  • How much fun your game or story is (and if it can be played from start to finish as intended).

Students may choose which level they wish to enter into and should specify when completing the Google form which one they are entering. Here are the different tasks for the different levels.
Beginner Submission Tasks:
- Include magnetism in your project somehow (get creative, this can be done in many ways!)
- Create at least 1 animation on a sprite by changing costumes
- Add at least 2 sound effects somewhere in the project

Intermediate/ Advanced Submission Tasks:
- Include magnetism in your game somehow (get creative, this can be done in many ways!)
- Create at least one of your own sprites and animate that sprite using costumes
- Add at least 4 sound effects somewhere in the game
- Use at least 2 variables in some way

Time Period: Please submit before 5 pm Friday, the 12th of December 2025, to be considered for the competition!

Prizes: 1 winner will be chosen from each level of difficulty, and each will be given a prize of $25 gift voucher!

In order to enter, students must:
  • Have an online scratch account
  • Send the following information to this Google Forms page: https://forms.office.com/r/r5iZVMGzh6
    • Copy the link to your submitted scratch project (this is the URL of your published project to Scratch; make sure it is published, as we can’t see private projects)
    • What level of difficulty the student is entering into (beginner or intermediate/advanced).
    • The year level of the student participating
    • The name of the student participating
    • The students’ parents’ name
    • The parents' email (for use if the student wins the prize)

If you win, we will reply to your submission with a followup email to let you know you have won and how you will be receiving your prize.

Good luck, everyone!
